A cosy, in-home studio with soft textures and neutral tones to capture all the sweet moments and tiny details
My in-home studio in Helensburgh is the perfect place to capture your newborn. Baby-led posing and soft, natural light make for photos that are naturally beautiful, just like your sweet, new babe.
Studio sessions are a bit more styled than in-home sessions - but aren’t overly-posed or overly-edited. I use warm, neutral tones to style and edit in a way that emphasises your baby’s features and lovely skin tone without feeling overdone. I will capture your baby on their own, including all their tiny details, as well as photos of them with you - and their siblings if they’ve come along. Sessions last about 2 hours which allows plenty of time for feeds and cuddles. While beautiful photos are the end goal, it’s just as important that you and your baby are comfortable and their needs are met throughout the session. There is no rushing and I aim to make the experience, one of the firsts you’ll have with your baby, an enjoyable one.
“Thank you so much to Darcy for being so patient during our family newborn shoot and capturing absolutely beautiful images. Our baby girl was unsettled during the shoot and Darcy gave me the time and space to feed & helped settle the baby. Darcy worked hard to get all the little expressions and faces our baby girl makes (in between all the crying) which we will be able to cherish forever.
We will definitely be back for more photos in the future & we would highly recommend Darcy for all your family photos.”

Where to from here- planning your session
You’ve decided to have photos taken, now what?
Once you contact me we will work out a date that suits for your session. I will then send you a booking link to make everything official. A small, non-refundable deposit is due at this time to secure your session date. Your booking link will contain a questionnaire so I can get to know you and your family better and plan the perfect session for you. While I have a distinct style and system in place to get us from start to finish efficiently, this isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Each session is designed from a uniquely informed perspective that is guided by you, your family and your preferences.

The best time to get newborn photos taken is before they turn 3 weeks old. This ensures they’re still quite snuggly and sleepy, which makes it easier to capture all those sweet details. I totally understand that it can be hard to schedule a session when you don’t know for certain what day your baby will be born. For this reason I leave room to move your session forward or back based on your baby’s actual birthdate. Just let me know as soon as you can after they’re born if you’d prefer to move your session and we will work out a more suitable date.

Absolutely not! It just means that we will probably get less sleepy photos and more photos of your baby while they are awake. They seem to always know something different and new is happening - especially beyond that 3 week mark!

My studio is located in my home in Helensburgh, NSW. There is parking located right out the front. Once you’ve paid your deposit I will send through a ‘what to expect’ guide with more details, like my exact address and other important information.

I have a selection of beautiful, one-size-fits-most dresses that are lovely for postpartum as they are quite flowy and loose (the same dresses that I offer for maternity sessions). You can currently view them on my Instagram highlights - and soon I will have a style guide that you can view directly on this website. I can also send through a style guide if you’d like to select something of your own to wear, but need a little guidance. I also have a selection of mostly neutral, hand-knitted newborn outfits that photograph beautifully that you’re welcome to use as well. I also have lots of soft, neutral coloured blankets. No need to bring anything unless you want to!

I want this session to be catered specifically to you. So if there is anything about your journey to parenthood or overall story that you want to try to capture then let’s talk about it! I love when families bring along something that’s special to them or have an idea for a photo that is part of their story. For example, maybe you have ultrasound photos you’d like to incorporate, you’ve bought or made a special toy or outfit for your baby you’d like to bring along, or you want to include the outfit they wore home from hospital into the session- we can find a way to incorporate it in a beautiful or creative way. At the same time, there is no pressure to bring anything!

After having three children and photographing a fair few newborns, I know that a bit of crying is inevitable. This is why I allow plenty of time for your session. When you need to feed or give your baby a cuddle, we will absolutely take a break. There is no need to feel rushed or stressed that your baby isn’t “cooperating”. My sessions are all baby-led, so if that means starting out with photos of all of you together because they don’t want to be laid down, then that’s what we’ll do. My goal is for this to be an enjoyable, stress-free experience for everyone involved.
